6.11 Small + Often = Habit
Productivity hack no.63 from '60 Ways to Hurray! by Ralph Varcoe.
All the tips, tools and tricks in the world aren’t going to ‘make’ you more productive in the long run. They will help you be more focused and efficient. They will get you to take action and tap into your motivation.
But it’s only when you ‘become’ the different person, the more productive version of yourself that it will last forever.
You need to think about making productivity a habit, something you do so frequently that it becomes automatic. Habits take time to form and it is in the frequency and consistency of application that they stick.
The first step is to actually implement some of the suggestions in this book. If you simply read them and think they make sense but never apply them then you’ll not achieve a great deal more than you are right now. Do them often and over a long period of time to make them stick.
Try not to make the initial changes too big. Don’t try and implement all 67 tips from this book on day one. You will fail and rather than helping you you’ll find that nothing really works and you’ll stop, saying that the book was crap and didn’t help you.
Take a few of the elements in the book and consciously decide to implement them for a week, and then another week, and another two, until you’ve consistently done them every day for at least 4-6 weeks.
The key is to make some of these things habits, and it’s through making good new habits that you’ll really see an acceleration towards being a productive ninja.
Become the person you want to be. One good new habit at a time.
