3.2   Apps and Websites

Productivity hack no.31 from '60 Ways to Hurray! by Ralph Varcoe.

My To Do list still has lots on it but I’ll just check the cricket score quickly before I carry on. Australia 143 all out! What a monster performance by the England bowlers. Let me quickly check out Jimmy Anderson’s bowling stats. What a legend. Go Jimmy!

Now the weather. What’s the weather going to be like tomorrow for Day Three of the Test Match at Lord’s? Mostly cloudy, possible light rain later. That’ll mean a bit of fun for the Aussie bowlers later on.

I’m just going to check what Aggers is saying on TMS through the BBC website. Yep. He also thinks it’s not going to be easy for England in the middle tomorrow but he’s saying Joe Root should have no trouble against the Australian spin.

Quick check of the email App. Nothing interesting there. Now how’s the Chaise Longue getting on on eBay? Oh, 4 watchers. Interesting.

Ok. Wow. I’ve only got 20 mins left to complete the next two tasks……

Stop with all the Apps and websites! They don’t need you and you don’t need them while you’re working. It is so easy to get distracted by other stuff that seems more interesting, and as the above scenario shows it’s really very easy to move from one App to another for ‘just a minute’. Those ‘just a minutes’ add up and waste time.

No problem to check those apps and websites at some point during the day, but save them until your down-time, after you’ve done what you set out to do.

If you really struggle with this discipline go to section 3.11 for some useful Apps (ironically) that will seriously help.
